The forecast was for a dry wknd but with a strong gusty Westerly wind, bringing some high windchills.I was parked up and away from the car, near Tiberthwaite, by 7-30 am it was a lovely walk back along the forest track listening to it come alive the "Knocking" of a few wood peckers sounding loud in the early morning air

My path led me to the Coppermines track but as soon as i joined it i left it on a steep tiny path towards Kitty crag. There are 4 small Birkets on these "Furness fells" and it was a nice walk up and down them

It led me to Tiberthwaite and another four Birkets i made my way over these, having still not seen a soul, from here i met the day walkers so made a path upwards just to the West of Wetherlam edge

The hard cold wind made it a cold day so after a quick bite on Wetherlam i made my way up the Prision band and onto Swirl how,its a short walk around to Great Carrs

I always pay my respects at the old crash site as i pass by..just before the last climb of the day,i dropped of the path to a good reliable water source and filled up with water for camp

 \
I was happy to put the extra water down after the last clamib up and soon set about finding some shelter from the biting wind

My demo/trial inner from MLD was soon up and soon after i was out of the wind with  a brew in hand watching some distant walkers along the far ridges

Sunset wasn't up to anything but was treated to some really nice colour afterwards for quite a while too

Tea was a lovely Chicken Curry from Real Turmat washed down with some brews and some Lakeland Toffee Vodka

I only took a few shots as the clag came in and out a few times, plus the wind was a pain both with my finger ends and with shaking the tripod

Morning still had the strong winds but some clear weather was around as i had some bacon buns for breakfast

For my return i headed back to the main ridge then dropped down to Levers water i then made my own way back to the "Hole rake" path and a lovely walk back to Tiberthwaite

The route came in at 15.8 mile and 5463 ft of ascent ..thanks for looking

Heres a link to the short Vid i did

Sweden Artic circle walk Day 8 & 9

After another night of Northern lights we we all tired after a late night, sky watching. But what a mornig it was side to side blue skies

It was warm enough to sit out in just base-layers and soak up the views around our camp

I wanted to follow the river down the valley but we ended up staying on the main path down the valley. The Birch leaves were in full effect, with every shade of yellow on display

The temp just kept rising and in the end it was 20c as we strolled down the valley, the only blight was the helicopters flying up the valley

I think these two peaks are Sinničohkka and Duolbagorni, they dominated the view behind us

Sadly the path was wide and well defined along this valley, due to it being the main route into the Kebnekaise fjallstation and the mountain of the same name above it

The small harbour and views back down LĆ”ddjujĆ”vri towards the previous nights camp spot

With a bus to catch in the morning we found a lovely spot we all could squeeze onto, right on the river bank of the LĆ”ddjujohka

The evening was lovely as i thought of the previous weeks walk and its sad end....

Mr Hollands Trailstar on  the banks of the river

Unbelievably we were treated to another night of the "Aurora Borealis"

If anything this last nights show was the best of the trip,i wish id had a better camera...check out Matt Hollands blog...he caught a stunning shot of the Northern lights reflected in the river

I was up early and watched as a large stag crossed the river below our camp

And there it was, after a few hours walking we were at Nikkaluokta and our bus pick-up point for the ride back to Kiruna

There was a very nice restaurant, that our friends Geoff and Chrissie had told us about,so we thought we would check it out.
It was very good and rather a lot of breakfast and coffee was consumed

Once back in our hostel we showered and had a walk around the town, before returning here again for our tea

It was a stunning trip and im so glad i listened to those who told me i should go see these stunning far North lands.
In total we walked 134 miles with an ascent total of 25,335 ft.We were lucky to get some good weather and blessed to see the Northern lights on nearly every night ...sorry for the very long delay in finishing of this, now old, trip report

Glen Affric Way Day 3

So a nice quiet night I was sleeping well,it’s a very large car park and apart from us there was just 3 motor homes parked up,so it was st...
