Wanders through Swedish Laplands day 4

Day 4 started and remained largely a wet day,but the night had been ok rain and some wind but nothing to note, off for 8 am it was a wet 7c

L.NT

As we headed down the valley we spotted this lonely cabin, but it was on the other side of the river, that snaked down the valley

The showers came on and off and with a slight breeze in our faces,we were luckily enough to chance an encounter with a family ? of three Moose, they looked to be huge,we kept our distant, thrilled with seeing them

Once out of the trees/shrubs we were on a small but good path, but where it often climbed up a bit was wet and slippy walking, roots being wet roots and leaves happy to deposit any spare rainfall they supported onto us

Above picture shows Passustjakka a peak over 6000ft

A first glimpse up towards the Nallu valley a mile or so short of the Vistasstugan cabin

Five years ago when i past here with Lee and Matt i bought some chocolate and heated up some meat balls, less said about them ! Jamie asked but sadly the cupboard was bare

We had lunch here as another heavy shower past over, then packs back on headed across the bridge,to follow the drenched path up towards the peak of Nallu

The plan had been to turn, just before Nallu, then climb it from the rear the next day.But the forcast id got at dinnertime gave more rain and cloud. So we pushed on to where id camped before with Lee @ Matt,a spot Geoff and Chrissie had told us about 6 yrs ago

The jagged imposing ridge line of Raitatjakka Reaiddacohkka looked like it had some early snow on  top, the temp had certainly dropped during the afternoon

It seemed to be further than i remember but we did find the same place,i think,so shelters were soon staked out and we nipped out for water between showers

Cuppa soup and two brews helped warm me up as the wind rattled down from above and the showers continued, sounding sleety at times.
I remember looking up at glacier last time i slept here,my mind wondering away at what lay in the valley beyond, tomorrows route and all new to me

Then it was time for tea another favorite from Basecamp foods

Looking up the valley in a brief clearing we saw Tjaktjatjakka and Ceakcacohkka and the galciers, which were helping make the fresh wind much colder as it blew over us

                         Thanks for looking,Safe travels Peter

Wandering the Swedish laplands Day 3

Day 3 started dry with a slight breeze, the temp around 8c again.I love the ritual of stove on brew then hot water on oats/raisin mix

"Leaving No Trace" again we set off under dry but cloudy skies, temp at 7c for 8 am

These hats from Alpinelite must have been one of the most worn items of the trip, probably my favorite bit of new kit in recent years, along with a pair of his 20g Alpha mitts

We rejoined the track for a short while and then cut across marshy ground to get to our river crossing,it was about 140 yards across but the water was crystal clear so it was easy to see foot placments....pants off ! we were soon across and back on the planned route

But first we had the river to cross over, but it wasnt too deep or that cold, knee deep in places

The weather stayed mainly dry,as we followed the faint path along we found this print, most folk suggest a dog one said possibly a young wolf...you can but dream

As the breeze was in our faces we came up on some deer who were feeding and one young white one,a sign of good luck i believe

After a few hours we leveled up with the settlement Alisjavri, from which we then turned Westwards again

We got caught by a few heavy showers before it set in harder, all eyes scanning for a pitch as we aimed for the Visttasvaggi valley

I thought it would catch too much weather but Jamie was keen to check this last high lump out ,no joy so we carried on our descent into the valley

After crossing the bridge over the Moarhmmajohka we found a pitch just up from the river flood plain, glad to swap too dry and warm layers and get a warm cuppa soup on

Food tastes so much better after a long days walk,a little more so if the last few hours have been wet and windy

Cloud played around the peak of Bogicohkka over 5000ft tall

Funnily after we had got pitched it finally stopped raining for an hour or two but set in again for the rest of the night

After collecting water and a very quick face wash my hands were cold from the fast river water, but were soon warm again as i sorted things inside my shelter, with my Alpha mitts from Alpinelite on..still not sure how something so light can work so well

Its been a good day even if the last few hours were wet,but tomorrow i get to show my brother the stunning Nallu valley, plus return myself after 5 yrs

Thanks for looking,safe travels Peter
