WANDERING THE SWEDISH LAPLANDS DAY 2..MLD TRAILSTAR
The wind stayed all night and seemed even stronger in the morning, with the odd drop of rain and what sounded like sleet.Brew and breakfast to get the body started, while still in my quilt
As we entered the valley properly we met the wind head on a nice 20 gusting 25-30 mph wind helped push in the wet and sleet showers as they flew into and past us
There is plenty of good camping in the valley but no shelter from any wind ,so was good decision not to enter it last night
Ballinriehppijokein glacier in the rear left of above pic
It was a great high valley too pass through but the wind and cold showers, peppered with sleet, did take the shine out of it a little,id seen a shelter on the map so we decided to have an early dinner there,it was small but wind tight
Dare not think how hot it could get if you did have fuel fire up the small wood burner in there
You can see the nice looking valley we went down in the above picture
Always happy and smiley when hes munching
Sadly leaving the hut, back into the cold day i made a huge boo boo with my Navigation, but only by 160 degrees !
The valley looked so nice and inviting to start ! Oh so wrong, after much hard work on rough loose steep wet ground, deploying root hand work and both poles,i thought i will just check on where we were......yep very much in the wrong valley and in the wrong direction !
So no more pics as it was just so much hard work to travel down as it got steeper, sometimes we were along the river stone too boulder then we had to go up again ...repeat repeat
After lots of cursing and grumbling we finally made it back to the track i was trying hard to avoid..the Kungsledden.
We saw a few folk heading North and so after gaining a few more miles along the now very wet Kungsledden we found a nice spot to camp up
Id remembered James Boulters trip near here and searched out his biggish river crossing, but that was for tomorrow, but did put us back on course again
You can see it here to the left of the shot
Tea was a favorite of mine "Wilderness stew" made by Bla bland and supplied by the lovely folk at Basecamp foods
Tougher and longer day than it needed to be,due to my crap navigation (would have helped if id just done it rather pull my heas further under my hood)
Thanks for looking ....Safe travels Peter
