Norway Trollheimen Day 1 & 2 Sept 2023

So in Sept 2023 we did a trip to Norway,sadly just before they had the worse storms for 25 yrs,our journey there hampered as 2 train lines had been swept away and two main highways destroyed 


But we did get there in the end,securing some fuel for our stoves,from the local petrol station,on the short walk from the station to the hotel

Id arranged a taxi to drive us out to the start,he was a retired farmer and he told us it had started raining in June and there had not been one day when it had not rained since,then they had huge storms the biggest for 20 + yrs...  we wonder what lay ahead of us 


Gjevilvasshytta was our start point and it was good to be on the way,with a dry start and 8 days food stored away in our packs



The dry start didnt last but the rain wasnt too heavy

 






We dropped our heavy sacks,after lunch, and we took a diversion and climbed up to the summit of Blahoa 1672m 



No views but it did clear a little on our way back down















Shouldering our packs,we left behind the day walkers and after another 90 mins we had found a spot to camp and had got our camps set up

Day 2


It was a cold camp and a wet and windy morning as we packed up and set off to climb out of this valley 



This lochan was a stunning colour,near to  Storfagerlitjonna

The rain had stopped but it was still a cold day the views had now opened up in front of us,as we crossed over into the next valley  










The rain came back as good places to camp seemed to be none existent,but we did see a few herds of deer moving around 




As the day wore on it dryed up and we were happy to finally found a spot to camp on a small plateau at 960m above the small village of Storlia  




With camp set up,water collected it was so good to get some warm food into our bodies and dry and air our feet

Day 7 started cold with a good frost on the ground,so it was a breakfast in bed sort of start...The weather looked like another good day of blue skies   The very pointy shaped Drakryggen loomed up into the crystal blue skies Now on Day 7 food supplies were much less and very much smaller than when we had set of,today we had 1 pass left to cross to get us to the end of the JoJo trail section  But first we had to return back up the valley to where we had dropped into it,the views were amazing  The narrow ridge of Gaskkasbakti (2043m 6702 ft ) We turned East at the end of the valley crossing the bottom of this very impressive ridge                    First part of the pass ahead 👆 This section was stunning, with the eyes constantly drawn in every direction,this pointy peak was Giebmebakti,the dusting of snow kept us checking every footstep as we tramped along the frozen rocky terrain  The memorial to a helicopter crash in August 2000 that sadly killed the three mountain rescuers aboard i

Sweden Arctic trip 2022, Day 8 & 9

With another night time photo session it was weary heads that woke,the Trailstars "no door" option allowing us to see another good days weather was ready to great us    My cup sadly was cracked when i took it out of my pack on Day 1 off this trip,luckily some of Treadlite gears excellent Cuben tape sealed it perfectly  The day started cold again with a fresh wind but warmed as we followed the river and path down to the valley bottom Ive walked this valley section before on my first trip here and it was again alive with autumn colours,every shade of yellow was on display As this path serves the Kebnekaise Fjallstation and access upto the Tarfala science station/huts its a good path all wet sections well boarded over in the two plank style of these far Northern regions  It was on this section i got chatting to some folk,who turned out to be finishing and leaving there Science work at the Trafala station,they were surprised we had been over the JoJo trail,telling me that in 5-6

The Crainlarich Munros Day 3 & 4 Xmid2 and Trailstar shelters

We caught a touch of frost overnight and had heavy condensation,but what a start to the day it was ! Inversions galore  These are the mornings we soak up the view and quietness of a waking day  Jamie’s Trailstar with the first hill of the day Cruach Adrian 1046m looming up behind  Xmid 2 Shadowed by Ben More & Stob Binnein         Bit of drying time in the warm breeze before L.N.T and moving on  Looking North  Once on the summit of Cruach Ardrain we took the small and very steep path NE of it to collect a new Top for me,Stob Garbh.We continued East then lost most of our height,down to 430m to then start the slow pull up to the coll After many slugs of cold mountain water we left the sacks and went up Stob Bennein,fine views in all directions  The ridge Southwards  Back to the packs for more fluids and an energy boost,it was with slower limbs we slowly but steadily made our way up to Ben Mores lofty view point,my visit before had the ground and the sky all white  Crainlarich far bel
