Dodds wild camp Feb 2025

I met up with my brother Jamie and we drove on the last bit and parked up just past Swirls car park and we’re off for 9 am ish 



It was a nice crisp cold winters morning,the drive up had started in fog but that had mostly finished around Windermere 








There was a crossing by the Red Arrows but think we were not under the flight path enough,but did get to watch this guy wing it’s way slowly along the Thirlmere valley 











Cloud was building up but never made its way past Dunmial/Hellvelyn  to reach us

We had a nice stroll up to Stybarrow Dodd and a wander out too Hart side,doubling back we walked across to Watsons Dodd.Having a hunt around for water we loaded up and had a slow heavy plod up to Great Dodd summit 















We had pitched early ish so enjoyed the views but the cold wind meant I made use of the tent door way to watch some of those views


























Tonight’s tea was a favourite,supplied as always by my fave supplier Basecamp foods  


We had a nice sunset but with the last of the sun went the heat and I soon retreated back into the Scarp,with Maggie sunuggling down into her Woofbag 




We had some cloud blow through for a few hours but by 8 or 9ish it was clear so I took the time too snap off a few night shots,the wind was being really unfriendly on finger ends 








Over night temps had dropped to -3.4c and the wind had increased some..6 am had us still in clag but it started to break up around 8 and in a few mins had cleared to leave good views again..a -14c windchill made packing a quick and smooth operation 















L.N.T was hard to do 





We retraced our steps mostly and I was home in time to watch my son win his basketball game

Sweden Arctic trip 2022, Day 8 & 9

With another night time photo session it was weary heads that woke,the Trailstars "no door" option allowing us to see another good days weather was ready to great us    My cup sadly was cracked when i took it out of my pack on Day 1 off this trip,luckily some of Treadlite gears excellent Cuben tape sealed it perfectly  The day started cold again with a fresh wind but warmed as we followed the river and path down to the valley bottom Ive walked this valley section before on my first trip here and it was again alive with autumn colours,every shade of yellow was on display As this path serves the Kebnekaise Fjallstation and access upto the Tarfala science station/huts its a good path all wet sections well boarded over in the two plank style of these far Northern regions  It was on this section i got chatting to some folk,who turned out to be finishing and leaving there Science work at the Trafala station,they were surprised we had been over the JoJo trail,tell...

Wild Camps of 2024..Trailstar/Duomid XL/Scarp1/Xmid2Pro

 As ive done on previous yrs,heres a short write up on 2024,s Wild camps.This years have taken place at home in the Lake District,in Scotland and Northern Sweden The first took place just off the shoulder of Yoke after walking around the Kentmere Horse shoe walk on the 13th Jan  Next was a camp on the back shoulder of Esk pike on the 10th of Feb Followed by a camp on the end Caw on the 8th of March  My new Xmid2Pro arrived and i took it across the Coniston fells with a camp on Grey Frair summit on the 20th March 5Th of May and a camp on the Calf summit after collecting a few peaks with a fellow wild camper  The above and 2 below pics were taken on Sand hill as we went out to catch the Aurora display,i got a message come through and another wild camper joined us,the best display i have ever seen in the UK Scotlands Glenshee Munros on the 25th and 26th of May saw us collecting peaks both sides of the Glenshee pass with a camp on either side to match Maggie joined me on...
