Sarek National Park Sept 2024.MLD Trailstar . Day 4

 Day 4,Overnight it had been windy and wet and the forecast we pulled in,gave more of the same for today 





The Trailstar once again proved its worth as an excellent shelter for these longer trips in wild remote places,a brief gap between showers allowed us to pack our shelters away fairly dry




The map showed an old Sami hut (Pielastugan) on the map so we decided to give it a visit,it sat out on a spur of land in Lake Bielajavratja

Sadly its not in good condition and was rather mouldy and unloved,but it still mainly dry inside 







We saw some blue skies and were hopeful of some dryer weather,heavy cold showers joined the wind the mix instead 






























The views out towards the mountain Bierikbakte,sat at over 5000 ft and at the foot of which we ended up camping 

















I had wanted to camp close to the foot of the mountain,but that would have meant crossing the glacier river,first thing in the morning,so we searched this side of the river and found a lovely flat spot,for an early camp





I went for a walk around the surrounding area enjoying the rest, while letting the solitude just absorb me into the landscape 














Back at camp with camp admin sorted, having had a wash i fired up the stove,a firm favorite LYO Beef Stroganoff.The wind whistling and gusting around the shelter walls, as showers passed through the valley












As it was still early on in this trip its nice to have a choice of which of my main meals to have,supplied as always by Basecamp foods

Wild Camps of 2024..Trailstar/Duomid XL/Scarp1/Xmid2Pro

 As ive done on previous yrs,heres a short write up on 2024,s Wild camps.This years have taken place at home in the Lake District,in Scotland and Northern Sweden The first took place just off the shoulder of Yoke after walking around the Kentmere Horse shoe walk on the 13th Jan  Next was a camp on the back shoulder of Esk pike on the 10th of Feb Followed by a camp on the end Caw on the 8th of March  My new Xmid2Pro arrived and i took it across the Coniston fells with a camp on Grey Frair summit on the 20th March 5Th of May and a camp on the Calf summit after collecting a few peaks with a fellow wild camper  The above and 2 below pics were taken on Sand hill as we went out to catch the Aurora display,i got a message come through and another wild camper joined us,the best display i have ever seen in the UK Scotlands Glenshee Munros on the 25th and 26th of May saw us collecting peaks both sides of the Glenshee pass with a camp on either side to match Maggie joined me on...

Sarek National Park Sept 2024.MLD Trailstar ......Day 2

Day 2 started dry,there had been some overnight rain,but unfortunately no clear skies.We were away for 8 am with what looked like on the map some wet ground to cover    The ground was exceedingly wet as made our way across the pathless ground,but full of colur,in all the mosses and linchens.All sat under a grey sky.But we did get to spot some herds of  deer as we made our way across too the river,we needed to cross   This is where i crossed it was very nearly leg deep for the last two steps ! but not too fast or cold,well  not icey cold at least.As soon as id crossed i stripped of my trousers and socks and wrung them out  Old Sami shelter  I set off a bit quicker and soon had the heat back in my legs and socks soon started to dry out,above my brother who choose to cross further up stream,too quick looking for my liking  Once we had warmed up some we stopped for lunch on a higher bump in the land,a few deer looked up and just carried on past t...
