Sweden DAY 7 2022,Backpacking above the Arctic circle line

Day 7 started cold with a good frost on the ground,so it was a breakfast in bed sort of start...The weather looked like another good day of blue skies

The very pointy shaped Drakryggen loomed up into the crystal blue skies

Now on Day 7 food supplies were much less and very much smaller than when we had set of,today we had 1 pass left to cross to get us to the end of the JoJo trail section

But first we had to return back up the valley to where we had dropped into it,the views were amazing

The narrow ridge of Gaskkasbakti (2043m 6702 ft ) We turned East at the end of the valley crossing the bottom of this very impressive ridge

First part of the pass ahead 👆

This section was stunning, with the eyes constantly drawn in every direction, this pointy peak was Giebmebakti, the dusting of snow kept us checking every footstep as we tramped along the frozen rocky terrain

The memorial to a helicopter crash in August 2000 that sadly killed the three mountain rescuers aboard it

Looking the back the way we had come, above and below the route onwards

This section was a bit tricky with the snow and ice making nearly all the rocks slippy, the sun had not reached this, while we passed throught it....so it was slow careful steps

Once back in the sun we warmed back up and had a snack, the knife edge ridge of Giebmebakti looked other wordly with the mist hiding then revealing its razor sharp edges

With the glaciers retreat it was hard to find a path downwards,so we settled for walking on the edge and close to the edge to get us down

Further down we found sections of rough path, as we walked over the loose moraine piles of rubble and  we skirted round the East side of lake Darfaljavri

We passed the Tarfalastugan huts and research station huts,i was relieved that this section was finished. What with all the glaciers melting and retreating there is a lot of very steep sections, that i once  think would have been filled in with snow and ice making the angles less steep

A camping spot at first was proving hard to find but as we went further up and away from the huts and path ,we were happy when wefound a great spot with a lovely mountain vista to sit and stare at

My tea hardly touched the sides but with only a day or two left i had a few extra bits to graze my way through

Once again a midnight pee call showed some funny looking skies,i soon woke jamie, but after an hour or so of taking pictures,my shelter and quilt were calling me back

I was pretty happy with what I managed too capture, given the cloud cover….the end to anther great days tramping.
