Norway/Sweden above the Artic circle with two MLD Trailstars Sept 2019,Day 3
Day 3 was a perfect start, the below the view from my toasty warm bed of down followed by breakfast & brews taken as we walked around camp enjoying the lonely perfect landscape surrounding our camp
On all longer trips only so much time can be spent in each location so we packed up,leaving only some flattened ground as sign we had ever been here
The run out area from the snow fields of Reinatčohkka was bouldery and a bit rough going in places as i picked a line upwards too the Glaciers end
Our camp was just along from the edge of the loch,on the right of the picture above
The crossing of the the end of this Glacier was ok,but we had to walk carefully avoiding the bigger cracks and we stuck to the sections which had more grit in them,as they gave more grip.
Would not have liked to cross this section in the wet
It was strange imagining all this snow and ice just grinding the rock away, nothing being able to stop it
We had a short break at the summit of the pass, but had to put on waterproofs as it had started to rain
We made our way down slowly over the boulder fields some huge ones to carefully clamber over then just some wet and slightly slippy ones ...
Following the vague path where it says "Reinatvággi" on the map
This peak was at the end of the valley, i can't find a name for it,but pictures don't do it justice it was imense..dominating the end of the valley....would love to look down from its lofty 5500 ft above sea level
We then came across the Lossivatnet lake which seemed to change colour as the sun tried to break back through the clouds
We passed some locked huts at Lossihytta and from there we headed across the hillside in an Easterly direction, we had got a signal here and found out that the train we had planned to get on the Sunday, now was not running and there were none on Saturday either ?.....this turned out to be wrong in the end, maybe a glitch on there page but we changed our route to suit from here
We struggled to find to find a place to camp for quite a while and then as often happens we found a cracking area with great views
The views across the valley to the 5000ft peak of Nuorjjovárri
Twelve more miles in the bag
