Cockley beck loop,MLD Duomid XL..May 2019
So i packed up some gear and set off from home for Cockley beck and the quiet side of the Lakes
The "Great wood" as its called is mixed and is really starting to grow now, coupled with some warm sunshine the air was full of bird song
The view above is looking back down to the carpark and the view below is from Harter fell looking towards the "Great moss" and my route ahead
From Harter fell i headed North and crossed the road,at the top of Hardknott pass
A steep pull up put me onto of Border end and another 15 mins saw me having a break on Hard knott summit, the skies had darkened and there were a few specs of rain, the temp had dropped to 7c
I met two folk on Hard knott but never saw anyone else, the small falls along Lingcove beck are always a treat,so i stopped and had a brew as i ate my dinner.Last time i was heading this way,was when i nipped up to meet James and Crissie who had camped near here, last year
To keep the route different i made my own way up via Rest gill, know idea why its named this as a restful way up it was not, but its always great to travel a different path
Now it got a bit busy as i hit the start of the Crinkles ridge but i find if you do the ridge proper and visit all 7 crinkle points you can soon get the spot quieter
The best mile of ridge line complete,id already decided to camp on Stonesty pike summit,a bit of mooch about and id found water and a flat spot for my shelter that gave me a view the could catch both sunset and sunrise
Sadly neither gave any good light..id had a few brews and a rest,so i had walk over to Little stand summit before having my favorite meal for tea
The cloud thickened during the evening and night and a cold wind kept me mostly inside, the temp dropped to -2c but the early morning breeze just added some nip...
This bank of cloud is what robbed me of a sunrise but the clouds were nice to watch as i had a few brews and some breakfast
The kitchen tap had exploded in the evening ,while i was away so i cut the trip short to get home and fix it,Cold pike and its neighbouring small peaks is always a lovely place to walk around
I made my own path to the valley and picked up the stream that joined into Gaitscale gill as it headed too Wrynoses bottom
The start of the walk at the end of the valley,Harter fell
The Dunnerdale forest is being slowly swapped over form the conifers to a lovely mixed woodland, again i stopped a few times just to listen to all the birdlife ...a pleasure to hear
The pic above is from my Social hiking page but its drawn from my Viewranger Gpx track,if anyone ever wants one of them just ask away..Thanks for viewing..Safe Travels Peter
