Cold pike summit camp with Darron Linney .Oct 2019
I,d had a few messages from Darron Linney over past month or so,he was on his holidays in the Lakes and did i fancy meeting up for a camp
The weather since he had arrived has been dire, but it then looked if we would get a brief cooler/dryer period..Luckily this turned out to be true
I finished early on the Wednesday and was soon parked up and walking in the afternoon sunshine. It was warm too around 15c as i left the car and headed up towards Pike o Bliss summit
The weather was that lovely late summer weather and the pilots were also out showing off (Training i think they call it ! )
We had agreed to meet on Cold Pike summit so after a slurp of water and an energy bar i enjoyed the view from Blisco summit as i strolled over towards Cold Pike
Id wanted the doors on my old Oookworks inner swapping from cuben to a more breathable fabric, its taken me ages to find anyone to do the work.Dave Vaughan kindly took on the job,he did a fantastic job too
Me and Max sat and watched the Master at work...it was nice to sit with a dog on the fells again, but also a bit sad too
As the sun dropped the temp followed with a small wind making it bite just a bit more,a lovely tasty, warm tea soon restored some warmth
And then the stars came out, with a new moon, short lived, they were very bright and even the Milky way was easy to see with the eyes
Then Darron showed me one of his shots, which goes to show what a very nice camera and some even nicer glass gets you,,not even mentioning the tripod which nearly weighs the same as some UL,s pack weights
Darron has hinted that he may very well be running some workshops some time in the future, having spent time with him in the mountains in winter, I can vouch hes good company and capable
After a late breakfast and with a biting wind we made our away across the Crinkle crags ridge line...to my mind one of the very best mile and a bit of ridges we have in the Lakes
After visiting all the tops along the ridge we arrived at 3 Tarns, from there we pulled up to Bowfell summit and the views across to the Scafells
We retraced our step back to the tarns and then followed the slight path down past Hells Gill pretty waterfalls
We called in to say hi to the Lady of Langdale Miss Shirly and then we were heading back home again...a short but enjoyable meet up
