Kentmere Horseshoe and wild camp, including stunning sunset, night shots, sunrise an inversion and brocken spectres ..Nov 2018
With the problems of general life, this year, ive not got out as much with Lee as i normally does it was good to meet up again
I arrived early and waited for Lee at the weir and then made our way up the Kentmere valley in just one car.I had seen some inversion and driven through some fog on the way here,as we climbed you could see these inversions in the distance
We decided to camp early and choose Harter fell, thinking it would help us get an inversion in the morning. The forecast was for strong Easterly winds as the day went ones we found a nice spot just off the summit high ground
Shelter pitched we went for a stroll down to Little Harter fell and then pick up some water as we returned
Sunset is early this time of years four pm saw us wonder up to the summit to take in the views, they did not disappoint,it was a lovely sunset
Lee made a handy model as we chatted away, snapping pics....as sunsets go it was a beauty
THe Duomid XL is way to big for one ! But the room it gives is superb
Tea was another Real Turmat and it was very tasty, i like to use a little less water than stated and it hydrated perfectly
I tried a few night shots early on but the moon washed out the night sky, after a few more brews and watching a film i settled down to sleep
Luckily i woke around 2-30 am and it seemed darker,i looked out and was happy to see the moon had dropped away. The star show was very impressive the cold fresh East wind was not kind on my fingers as i set up the camera
I was taking pics and watching the skies till around 3-30 am so i slept well again till just gone 6-30 am..a brew on i got out to see how things were looking.Luckily over to the East was a lovely inversion
The colour started nearly an hour before sunrise and the whole sunrise was a stunner with low cloud roll around, pushed on by the cold East winds
My tea and breakfast were both from Basecamp foods, this breakfast was lovely with a good spoonful of Nido milk powder mixed into it
The wknd had already given a lot but after setting off we got treated to a fantastic Brocken spectre,it was full of colour and bigger than many ive witnessed over the years
From our camp we dropped to the pass and then cut across to Thornthwaite crag the views all around were stunning
All in all it was a great wknd to be wild camping

Upper Kentmere valley was still asleep as we passed the last few, dream location houses, and headed up towards to the high ground
